Alpine Day Trips from Ljubljana: Soča Valley, Triglav or Logar Valley?

Updated October 18, 2026 · 6 min read

A turquoise river runs over pale boulders between forested slopes, with a bare grey mountain ridge under a blue sky

Short answer: for most visitors the guided day tour to Soča and Kranjska Gora is the one. It is the most reviewed of the six alpine day trips from Ljubljana compared here, 4.9 stars from 972 reviews, at €114 per person for 10.5 hours. Choose the Logar Valley tour at €99 if you want green valleys and farms rather than the emerald river, and the Triglav National Park tour if you want the longest list of stops.

What these tours are

All of them are long days in a van or minibus, between 6 and 12 hours by the listings. Each one drives you there, adds a guide, and leaves the walking to you at the stops. The Soča and Triglav tours go to the Julian Alps; the Logar Valley lies in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, which is a different part of the mountains. On the Soča, Triglav and Logar tours food and drinks are not included, so plan for lunch.

Soča and Kranjska Gora

The route follows the Soča from Most na Soči, stops in Kobarid and walks to Kozjak Waterfall (75 minutes by the listing’s itinerary), passes Boka Waterfall, the Great Soča Gorge and the Vršič Pass, and ends at Lake Jasna and Kranjska Gora before the 1.5 hour drive back. The booking page lists three pickup points in Ljubljana. The entrance fee for Kozjak Waterfall is included; food and drinks are not.

One reviewer’s warning is worth passing on: it is a mid-size van with up to 8 guests, and the middle seat in the third row limited the view on a very long day.

Triglav National Park and the Soča

This tour has more on the list: Peričnik Waterfall, a viewpoint above Gozd Martuljek, Zelenci Springs, Lake Predil across the border in Italy, about three hours of free time in Bovec, the Great Soča Gorge, Vršič Pass and Lake Jasna. The operator gives the length as 8 to 12 hours and says you are back in Ljubljana at about 9 p.m..

Three details matter. You need a valid passport or ID card, because the route crosses into Italy. National park fees, transport and the guide are included, while food and drinks are not, and rafting or ziplining in Bovec costs extra and must be booked separately in advance. And the pickup is at a fixed meeting point (Tivoli Park in Ljubljana) unless you choose the door-to-door pickup (the listing marks the Bled hotel pickup as an optional upcharge); for that the operator needs your location by 8 p.m. the evening before.

The Logar Valley

The Logar Valley tour goes north instead: Planšarsko Lake in Jezersko, the Solčava Panoramic Road, Rinka Waterfall and a walk in the Logar Valley, with an optional lunch at a local farm. The booking page puts the round trip from Ljubljana in an air-conditioned vehicle, with a guided walk at Jezersko. Food and drinks are not included, and the operator may cancel if there are too few participants, in which case you are offered another tour or a full refund.

It has 66 reviews against 972 for the Soča tour, and some travellers say an earlier, better-coordinated lunch stop would make the day smoother. The price is €15 below the Soča tour.

Who they do not suit

The booking pages of the Soča and Kranjska Gora tour, the Triglav tour and the Logar Valley tour all list people with mobility impairments and wheelchair users as not suitable. These are days of stops on uneven ground, and the Triglav listing recommends sturdy shoes because the Peričnik trail is uneven. Long hours in a van are also hard on small children; the booking pages give no age limit, so ask the operator before you bring them.

Driving yourself

You can also do the Logar Valley on your own. The park charges an entrance fee for motorised vehicles only: €10 for a car, €7 for a motorbike, €20 for a van, according to the park’s own page, while people on foot or bicycle pay nothing. That fee gives you the right to stop and park along the valley road. Compare rental cars for Ljubljana on Discover Cars, check the excess and the deposit, and remember that Slovenian motorways need an electronic vignette. Check the driving time on a route planner before you commit to a day trip.

The Soča route is the longer day, with the Vršič Pass in the middle, and that is where letting someone else drive helps.

Which one

For most visitors the Soča and Kranjska Gora tour is the one: most reviewed, 4.9 stars, a full day for €114. If you have been to Bled already, see our comparison of Lake Bled tours and pick the alpine day that adds something. More options sit under Soča Valley and Julian Alps tours.
